I promised something different, so here you go! This is probably the fastest and easiest yeast bread recipe I have ever found! No kneading needed! Hot, fresh, homemade bread in less than 2 hours! I don't know if it gets any better than this!
Easy Batter Bread
3 c. flour
2 Tbsp. Sugar
1 tsp. Salt
1 pkg. Active dry yeast
1 egg
1 c. milk
2 Tbsp. Shortening
Mix 2 cups of the flour, with the
sugar, salt and yeast in a large mixing bowl. Heat milk until very
warm, stir in shortening until it melts, then beat in eggs. Pour
liquid ingredients into dry ingredients and beat on low speed with a
electric mixer for 1 minute, scraping sides frequently. Beat on
medium speed 1 minute, scraping bowl frequently. Stir in remaining
flour until smooth dough forms. Dump dough into a greased loaf pan,
9x5x3”, and pat down and smooth into pan. Cover and let rise in a
warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes.
Bake at 375 degrees for 40 – 45
minutes or until loaf sounds hollow when tapped. Remove from pan and
brush crust with butter while hot.
I was wondering if I can use butter in place of the shortening? Is shortening usually margarine? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAny of the above are fine, this bread is very forgiving of substitutions.
